Background
The president of a large Fortune 500 finance division asked if
we
could train her people on conducting more effective meetings.
The division has offices across the country. Current meetings
were often tedious, wandering affairs, covering anything and
everything.
Challenge
Our needs assessment indicated
two problems with the way
meetings were being conducted. First, the meetings were boring.
They were often unengaging and dry. Second, and even more
important, they were ineffective. With so many demands on
people’s time, it was especially frustrating for staff to
sit in meetings
that didn’t yield a commensurate return.
Canunn's
Solution
The solution was a simple and revolutionary cure for the two
problems identified: boring and ineffective meetings. Canunn
taught the division meeting leaders that there should be different
meetings for different purposes. Each office in the division adopted
the Four Meeting Model. Meeting leaders were also taught how to
make the first ten minutes of the meeting energizing and interactive.
The result was a measurable increase in meeting productivity in
all
division offices across the board.
